Go Shodan Challenge: Progress

A new blog documents Karen Plomp's journey toward 1 Dan in this year's Shodan Challenge.

Gotta hand it to her; that's a big challenge. As you know, my goal is much more modest, to break Single Digit Kyu (SDK) by next summer. I think I'm on track to do it too - 17K at KGS and 15K at DGS. If I could just convince myself to start doing life and death again, I think I could jump another couple kyu in the next month.

But we'll see...

Making Life

Making Life is an amusing Go comic strip. Did I blog it before? Heck, I don't know. Anyway, enjoy it.

More Tsumego

Someone on KGS last night threw out this link for consumption: HITACHI : Tsumego. It's Minoru Harada's tsumego page, and there are a ton.

So when you get tired of working your way through goproblems.com and gobase.org, check this out. I plan to.

Fight, fight, fight!

A SGF Repository

Michael's SGF Repository has not only a number of .sgf files that Michael found of interest, but also several links to other repositories - both free and pay.

15kyu

Though I imagine it won't be more than a temporary fluke, I hit 15kyu for the first time today.

This is on DGS. On KGS, I am still tooling along at 21kyu. I haven't been going there much, and last night I went to play, but a new player approached me and I ended up playing teaching games with him all night. Which is fine, but I keep losing on KGS, and I would really like to win a rated game for a change.

:)

Decent Basic Go Article

The Economist has a decent article about Go. Not much content, but if your family and/or friends wonder why you are suddenly so addicted, this may give them an easy-to-understand starting point.
